(Such cognitions depend upon previous other cognitions), inasmuch as they appear in respect of objects seen, and do not appear in respect of objects unseen.
(The Vaiśeṣikas apply) the term, object, to Substance, Attribute and Action.
In (the topic dealing with the ascertainment of) Substances, (the theory) that bodies, etc., are a compound of five elements, has been refuted.
By reason of (its) predominance, and of possession of Smell, Earth is the material cause of the olfactory sense.
In like manner, Water, Fire and Air (are the material causes of the sense-organs of Taste, Colour and Touch), inasmuch as there is no difference in the Taste, Colour and Touch (which they respectively possess, from what they respectively apprehend).
