Mundak

Upanishad opens with declaring Brahma as the first of gods, the creator of the universe, and the knowledge of Brahman (Ultimate Reality, Eternal Principle, Cosmic Self) to be the foundation of all knowledge. The text then lists a succession of teachers who shared the knowledge of Brahman with the next generation.

Second Khanda

The self-manifested supreme element is contained here, it is the great post that wanders in the cavity of the heart, in it is dedicated all that is moving, alive and visible. This is the great position, know that only as 'true' and 'false', which is the ultimate choice, the greatest and the 'supreme', and which is beyond the knowledge of the creatures (people).

This 'Luminous', who is more subtle than the atoms, in whom all the worlds and their people are embedded, is 'this' - this letter 'Brahm', the vital element is 'that', 'that' is speech and that is mind. 'That' is 'This', 'Ultimate Truth' and 'Sattattva', 'That' is the Amrit Tattva. Through you, 'That' is penetrable, gentle! Enter into that.

Accept the great horse in the form of the bow of the Upanishads, fix the arrow sharpened by worship on it, draw the bow by completely concentrating the mind in that 'Paratattva' and O Soumya! By aiming at that 'Akshar Brahma', pierce 'him'.

Om is the bow and the soul is the arrow, and 'that', i.e. 'Brahman' is said to be the target. He should be pierced without carelessness; Just as the arrow becomes extinct in its target, in the same way a man should become engrossed in 'That' (Brahman).

'That', in whom all the channels of heaven, earth and space, mind and life are contained, pervaded, know 'him' as the only 'Self'; Abandon all other words other than this, this is the bridge of nectar.

Where the nadis (aberrant) converge like the spokes joined in the navel of the wheel of a chariot, it is He who moves within, He who takes birth in many forms. Meditate on the 'Atman' as 'Om', and may your path be auspicious (Swastik) to cross beyond Andhatmas (darkness).

The one who is the 'omniscient', the 'all-knowing', who has all this glory on earth, it is the 'soul' who is established in this divine Brahma-Puri, in this Vyom (ether).

He is Manomaya (mind-blowing), the leader of life and body, who has established the heart in Matter (Food), which is itself established in Matter (Food). By knowing Him, the wise (Dhir Purush) see 'That' (Atmantattva) all around them whose light is reflected everywhere, which is 'Blissful' and Nectar-Swaroop.

All the knots of the heart are opened, all doubts are dispelled, and the deeds of man are dispelled, when that 'Param-Tattva' is seen, which is at the same time the lower being and the 'supreme being'.

In that supreme Hiranmaya Kosha (deer-like shell) resides the unblemished, formless 'Brahman' He is the 'Phosphorescent', He is the 'Light' of 'Lights', He is the Self-Known.

There the sun does not shine and the moon becomes dull and the stars are extinguished; There even this electricity does not shine, then how will this earthly fire be able to burn? Whatever shines, it is perceived by its aura, this whole world is being illuminated and perceived by its light.

All this is 'Brahm' in the form of nectar, apart from this there is nothing else; Brahman is in front of us, Brahman is behind us, in our south as well as in our north, below us and above us, it pervades everywhere. This whole wonderful world is 'Brahman' only.
