Mundak

Upanishad opens with declaring Brahma as the first of gods, the creator of the universe, and the knowledge of Brahman (Ultimate Reality, Eternal Principle, Cosmic Self) to be the foundation of all knowledge. The text then lists a succession of teachers who shared the knowledge of Brahman with the next generation.

Second Khanda

This is 'That' the 'Truth Principle' of substances. The actions which the poet-seers saw in the Mantras, were many times expanded in Treta-Yuga. Practice those deeds with a single mind, wishing for the 'Truth'; This is your creed for Punya Karma-Loka (Sukrit-Loka).

When the sacrificial fire is ignited and its flames start fluttering high, then dedicate your oblations with devotion between the two oblations of ghee (butter).

Whose sacrificial fire (Agnihotra) is free from the new moon sacrifice, the full moon sacrifice, the rainy season (Chatur-Masya) sacrifice and the first fruit-food offering, he is Ahuta or He who is unaccustomed or devoid of guest-sacrifice, or devoid of sacrifices offered to the world-gods, destroys the merit-expectation of his seven worlds.

'Kali' - Shyamvarna (black), 'Karali' - Fierce, 'Manojwa' - Swift like the speed of the mind, 'Sulohita' - Raktavarna (red), 'Sudhumravarna' - Smoke-like color, 'Sphulingini' - Dispersing sparks, 'Vishvaruchi' - All beautiful, these are the seven flaming tongues of fire, Mantras of Vedas, Second era in Chatur - Yugas.

When they become intense, the worshiper who performs the yagya rituals in a reasonable time, his yagya fire, these rays of the sun take him to the place where the 'Adhishwar' (Supreme God) of the gods is the only 'adhivasi' (Domicile) of the upper world.

These resplendent Hutagnis call out to the host "Come, come with us" and greet him with love, worship him, bear him through the rays of the sun; "This is your virtuous Brahmaloka, your well-deserved heaven."

But these sacrificial boats are dilapidated, these eighteen of eighteen are unsteady, in which the law of inferior actions (low-actions) has been described; Fools are those people, who greet them considering them as credit, they recur in this world of old age and death.

These people who are wrapped in 'Avidya' (ignorance), who think themselves to be learned, "we too are learned and pandits", are in fact fools, and they wander about bruised and stumbling as if led by a blind man.

They live in the multiple bonds of 'Avidya' (ignorance) and think proudly like children, "We have achieved our goal of 'Svarga' (heaven)"; because when a man of action does not gain knowledge due to his attachment (raaga), When they get it, they are under the control of sorrow and eagerness, then their 'heaven', becomes weak due to enjoyment and they themselves fall from their heaven.

These deluded people, who consider Yajnyagadi deeds and Kupadi mining works as the best (senior) good deeds and do not know any other credit, they enter this world or even lower world after realizing Sukrit-lok in heaven-surface.

But those who follow their devotion and penance in the forest and live by begging with a calm mind and knowledge, they get free from the dust (Raj) of their desires and reach the place where 'Avyayatma' (soulless) comes out from the door of the sun, 'Amrit-Purush' (divine) exists.

The Brahman-seeker (Brahman) by examining the Karma-accumulated worlds feels the dullness (Nirveda) of the world, because that which is 'Akrit' (non-existent) cannot be attained by doing Karma alone. For the knowledge of that 'Paratattva', he (Brahmin) should go to Vedavid (Shrotriya) and Brahmanishtha Guru with samidha in his hand. i.e., "'He' who is uncreated is not based on the created."

To him who has completely surrendered, who has become peaceful, in whose soul peace resides, the scholar preaches in essence that Brahmavidya by which the 'Akshara Purush', the 'Paramsatya' (Supreme Truth) and the 'Sat Tattva' are known.
