Shvetashvatara

The Shvetashvatara Upanishad opens with the metaphysical questions about first causes. Upanishad is an ancient Sanskrit text embedded in the Yajurveda. The word Shvetashvatara translates to "the one carrying beyond on white horse" or simply "white mule that carries".

Fourth Chapter

'He' who is the only unique and without form-character, he decides to take many characters, many forms by his Shakti Yoga and takes many substances in himself, and in the end this world disappears in 'Him'. Only that 'Dev' existed in the beginning. May 'He' equip us with auspicious and bright intellect.

'That' is fire and 'that' is Aditya, 'that' is air and 'that' is moon; 'That' is the 'Light' (Shukra), 'That' is 'Brahman', 'That' is the water, and 'That' is the 'Father' of the subjects, Prajapati.

'You' are the woman and 'You' are the man; 'You' are the Kumar and 'you' are the virgin girl again; 'You' are just a dilapidated old man who walks with the support of his punishment. Oh, 'you' only take birth and the whole world is full of your different forms.

'You' are the blue-sky and green and Lohitaksh, womb, seasons and many oceans. 'You' are eternal and 'You' move everywhere with Vibhu-bhav from which all the worlds have originated.

There is 'one' Ajata (unborn) who is white-black and red-coloured, who is continuously creating many different subjects and one of her Ajata (Purusha) enjoys companionship in love with her; While the other unborn (Purusha) abandons her after enjoying all her pleasures.

Two birds of beautiful plumage, who live side by side and are friends with each other, come and live on the same tree; One of them eats the delicious fruits of that tree, the other does not eat, only watches.

On the same tree there is a Purusha (engrossed in relishing) and he mourns infatuatedly, being aneesh (not the self's god); But when he sees and associates himself with that other Purusha who is Ish, and he knows his glory in the whole universe, then he becomes sorrowless.

In the supreme letter 'Vyom' where all the gods have taken their seat, there are the hymns of Rigveda, and what will one do with the hymns who do not know 'him'? Those who know 'him', in reality they are seated like this.

Various verses, various sacrifices, various religious ceremonies and rituals, whatever has happened in the past and whatever is going to happen in the future and all that is inaugurated by the Vedas, the 'Adhishwar' of 'Maya', through him, the whole world He creates, and there is another whom he keeps completely attached to it by his 'Maya'.

Know Maya to be the power of nature and consider the Lord of Maya as 'Maheshwar'; This whole world is pervaded by the constituent entities of 'His' (Maheshwar).

That 'Ekam' (advitiyam) which enters into every womb and in which this whole world is accumulated (gathered) and dissolves in it, of that desired 'Deva' who is in the form of our Ish And by seeing the God who gives us the boon, man attains this peace to the utmost extent.

He who is the prabhava (birth) of the Devas and the origin of their being, who is the ruler of the universe, 'Rudra', 'Maharshi' - the great seer, and who saw 'Hiranyagarbha' while taking birth, - He Unite us with brilliance and auspiciousness.

Who is the ruler of the gods, in whom all these worlds are dependent, who rules these two and four feet, to which god should we worship by offering our sacrifices?

In the midst of this great disorder (Kalil) who is subtle and subtle (Truth), who is the creator of the world in many forms, and who, despite being 'one', surrounds the whole world, knowing him as 'Shiva' - the auspicious one, man attains ultimate peace.

In Time-Movement He is the protector of the worlds, He is the Ruler of the universe who is hidden in all pastimes, in whom the sages and the gods have attained Sayujya by Yoga; Knowing 'him' in this form, man breaks the noose of 'death'.

That 'Dev' who is as subtle as the cream on top of the milk, who is 'Shiva' and is deeply present in all the pastimes, who is 'One' yet pervades the whole world, By knowing that 'Dev' in this form, man becomes free from all bondages.

It is 'Deva', the great soul, Vishwakarma the creator of the whole world, ever seated in the hearts of all beings, by the heart, the intellect and the mind it is attained; Those, who know this, become immortal.

When there is no Tama, He is neither day nor night, neither real nor unreal, He is the one supreme auspicious 'Shiva', 'That' is Akshar, He is the supreme light of the 'Creative Sun' and from Him the ancient 'Wisdom' ' has spread.

No one can catch 'Him' completely from above, nor on the same ground (from side to side), nor in the middle; No image (statue) can be made of him whose name is 'great fame'.

Its form does not remain in front of the eyes and no one can see it with the eyes, but those who know it through the heart and mind of the heart, they become immortal.

Perhaps someone filled with wonder considering it as 'unborn' goes to its shelter. O Rudra, always protect me from your auspicious south face.

(O Rudra) do not destroy our sons, nor our grandsons, nor our lives, nor our cows, nor our horses. O Rudra, do not kill our heroes in your anger; We always invoke you while offering sacrifices.
